I just saw this message from you. I joined so long ago, but never really have used this ning. I hope that you have been well.

It has been reported that more than 1 million people are living with aphasia in the U.S. Research
has shown that computer use can help establish new connections in the brain, yet many stroke
survivors and others with aphasia have never been exposed to many resources that may help them
improve. The brain is capable of new learning, especially when properly stimulated intensively
over a short period of time. When used correctly, the use of technology empowers clients and
their families to continue with "therapy" after discharge from a formal program. It is imperative
that people with aphasia and those who are their advocates be exposed to the many resources that
can enhance the rehabilitation process. In this presentation, I will introduce you to a variety of
technological solutions help individuals with aphasia maximize their verbal, auditory, reading,
writing and executive skills. I will also present simplified email programs, software to help keep
the brain sharp, long distance communication solutions, and the use of the computer to improve
community access. This session is not intended for people with aphasia, but rather for their
caregivers and the professionals who are providing help. Learn about customizable multi-sensory
drill and practice software, text readers to help with reading comprehension, software to help with
word prediction and word retrieval, adapted email, online information and support groups and
other helpful resources to improve overall quality of life.
I hope you have a great day!

You must be very busy preparing for the ATIA conference. I hope all goes well. You are right about my weakened state. I guess you can say that I am sleepless in Toronto! Then again, a friend reminded me that I never did get enough sleep even before the baby.
Did Deborah share the spinner grid set with you? That was just a start and the grid set is growing. My problem is that I have tens of grid sets at different stages of completion and I always think of newer ideas and end up leaving my projects to explore new possibilities. One such possibility is a more dynamic video game setting. It would still be switch accessible, and interactive with rich multimedia. I am still trying to resolve some technical challenges, but I know it is possible.
Yes, I'm at the Caribe Royale for $157 per night from W- 1/30 through F- 2/1. You can give my e-mail address as Linda.Schleef@wwu.edu
Thanks a lot, Val!
Linda
Thank you.
I hope that this is one more way I can introduce people to the EagleEyes program and make contact with the great people who are trying to make life easier for people with phycical disabilities
Maureen
Thanks for the book...it is a great resource! Can't wait to start using it in the college classes and other trainings! When's the next time you will be in the office? Have to talk about getting more clicker....
Okay Val, you talked me into it! I just submitted a proposal to NCCE - the same one I sent to ATIA - Building Literacy Capacity for ALL Learners: Technology in UDL Environments. Thanks for the nudge. I'm going to ATIA in spite of the fact that I am only an 'alternate'. Will you be there?

Yes we will have to touch base so we can catch up on things. It's a busy time of the year...but it's starting to even out.
