It is a difficult decision. And I don't know the accommodations/modifications she has in place. The Dana (more sophisticated sibling of AlphaSmart) is an alternative. Relatively inexpensive, and it has calendar feature to record assignments, etc. ...

I tried ViaVoice but was never able to work out the kinks. My enunciation is clear (however Southern) and I read well, but it never 'translated' closely enough for me. I spent a lot of time and effort on it, but eventually threw it in the trash!
