The special educator in the room does pull out children sometimes but usually with a group including reg ed kids. Mostly, though, we all stay in the room unless it's group work time. Then one group will leave just to make things quieter. IEPs goals are met in the room in small groups or individualized.
I teach regular ed because I like it. I had always intended to teach special ed but when I went for my bachelor's, it was in regular ed (that's how things were done back then). And I found I really liked it. So I just stayed in reg ed with a spec ed masters.
