Learning...Sharing...Creating

What technologies do you recommend for students to learn that are robust enough to grow with them through the years? I find that many students arrive at college without any technologies, especially text to speech to help them keep up with the faster pace and greater quantities of reading associated with college. I also find that many college campuses are finally getting on board with Kurzweil, although even they vary in how well they support the textbook scanning and other essential details.

What other technologies do you prefer? My favorites are Kurzweil3000, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Keystone ScreenSpeaker, Franklin PlanPlus for Windows (planning/task list/calendar/contacts), and Scientific Notebook with MathTalk.
