I am Lisa Parisi, a regular education fifth grade teacher on Long Island. I co-teach with Christine Southard and we have a full time inclusion classroom. I also have a Masters in Special Education.
I am Lon Thornburg. I am currently the only AT specialist in the North-eastern portion of our state, Oregon, covering 7 counties and 12 school districts. I provide professional development as well as support all the various teams working with students for their AT needs. I am excited to be able to get to know and share with all of you that work in this fulfilling role that we all have, working with diverse learners and seeing them shine. I have several online AT projects that you can check out from my page.
I am a new AT consultant in Easton Pennsylvania, IU 20! I moved to PA from NC a month ago for the job opportunity. I have been a special education teacher for 6 years and a program specialist for exceptional children for the past two years. I have tried very hard to incorporate technology into my teaching and student products since the beginning, so this job is a natural fit for me. I am very excited about the road ahead and I look forward to it!
Hi everybody. I have worked at SET-BC for the past 15 years as an AT consultant, and I am currently the Universal Design for Learning project coordinator. Paul Hamilton is my colleague and everywhere I go he seems to have already been there done that, so here I am again, tagging along lol. I am discovering that educating teachers about UDL creates a climate of receptiveness for the implementation of assistive technology and blurs the artificial dividing line between our typical students and our special needs students. What an exciting time to be in education!
You are so fortunate to work with Paul Hamilton (@paulhami on twitter). He is an incredible resource and a wonderful asset to the assistive technology field!
And SET-BC is an invaluable website - thank you for all you do!
Thank you, Karen. You are way too kind. Seriously, the "edublogosphere" really is much more than a network of people who care about meeting the learning needs of the children in our schools. It's a very warm, friendly, helpful, and encouraging community! I believe that each of us makes a significantly greater contribution because of our connections with each other. --Paul
Hi Bob! Wow, I've just been going through the members list and reconnecting with foks I haven't been keeping up with. Everything is going well in BC, especially the UDL project at SET-BC. I will be at CEC in Seattle in the Friday UDL strand and hope to connect with many of you there!
Hi, my name is Laura. I am the AT "Coordinator" for a suburban public school district. I like to read what others are doing and using re: AT in order to get ideas and discover new things for my students. That is how I found this group. I've been trying to learn about the new eye-control technologies because I have a student who I think could use one. I've been reading about the devices marketed by Tobii, DynaVox and Prentle Romich. I read someone's Blog that said Tobii teamed up with one of these other two businesses; does that mean that their eye-control products work the same? I hope to hear some comparison regarding the devices. Thanks. Laura
